The land for the school, church, and cemetery was donated by Robert "Free Bob" Vernon in the Arcola/Roseland area. The old school building was demolished not long ago. Former students and descendants of Robert "Free Bob" Vernon frequently reminisce about their experiences at the school. Mrs. Grace Belvins Walker, one of Free Bob's descendants, is among those who recall those times. The extensive collection of photographs preserves many stories from that era for her.
